About Ceramax

Your coffee setup can travel too.

When travelling, you still want to brew with your own beans. Grind, distribute and tamp as you normally would. Ceramax takes care of the heating and pump pressure, so you can take your espresso routine with you without a full-sized machine.
What do you take with you?Show less

Along with a charged Ceramax, you need water, coffee and a suitable espresso grinder. Add fresh coffee and water for each espresso. Use the included tools to prepare your coffee. After brewing, clean the used parts and pack the set into its travel case.

What Ceramax adds to your coffee setup.

See your espresso as it flows.

The bottomless portafilter leaves the underside of the filter basket exposed. You can see where the espresso starts to flow and how the streams come together. Along with what you taste, this helps you adjust the grind or distribution for your next brew.

58 mm filter basket · 18-20 grams of ground coffee

Brew espresso without a socket.

The battery powers the heater and pump. With a charged machine, you can brew without a power socket. You add your own water and coffee. The number of brews depends on factors including the amount of water and its starting temperature.
What affects battery life?Show less
Heating water takes energy. The amount of water, its starting temperature, your chosen temperature and the surroundings affect how many brews you can make on a full battery. If you use hot water and start extraction directly, the machine does not need to heat it first.

Adjust your brew to your beans.

Use the Bluetooth app to set the water temperature, pre-infusion and extraction time. That lets you adjust the brewing process as well as the grind and taste the difference. Save settings you enjoy to use them again. You do not need a phone to brew using the button.

Is this right for me?

For those who enjoy grinding and tamping.

Ceramax suits you if you like preparing your own espresso and want to use the same approach away from your usual coffee setup.
  • You want to use your own beans.

You choose your beans, dose and grind. You need a grinder that grinds finely enough for espresso and lets you adjust the setting in small steps.
  • You want to take your coffee setup with you.

You want a machine that does not need a power socket while brewing. You still take water, coffee and preparation tools with you, and make sure the battery is charged.
  • You enjoy preparing your coffee.

Grinding, distributing, tamping and cleaning are still part of the routine. You enjoy experimenting and making adjustments yourself, rather than leaving everything to an automatic machine.

How it works

From beans to espresso.

  1. 01

    Grind and dose.

Grind 18-20 grams of coffee with a suitable espresso grinder. Fill the filter basket. The dosing funnel helps keep the ground coffee in the basket.
  2. 02

    Distribute and tamp.

Distribute the coffee evenly and tamp level. Place the puck screen on the coffee and attach the portafilter underneath the machine.
  3. 03

    Add water and heat.

Fill the reservoir below the MAX mark and close the lid. Start heating with the button. A sound signals that the water has reached temperature.
  4. 04

    Brew your espresso.

Place your cup under the portafilter and start extraction. The pump pushes water through the coffee. Let the parts cool after use before removing the coffee and cleaning them.

Change one setting at a time.

Keep your dose and espresso yield the same at first. Adjust the grind in small steps and taste the result. This makes it easier to notice what each change does. You can then also experiment with temperature, pre-infusion and extraction time.
What do the settings do?Show less
The temperature setting determines how hot the machine heats the water.

Pre-infusion wets the coffee before the main extraction begins. You set its duration in the app.

The extraction time determines how long the machine runs the extraction. A set time does not give you a fixed amount of espresso. The yield also depends on your grind, dose and preparation. Coffee scales help you track what reaches your cup.

Frequently asked questions

Anything else about Ceramax?

Ask us about Ceramax
Which coffee grinder do I need?
An espresso grinder that grinds finely enough and lets you adjust the grind in small steps. The right setting depends on your beans and recipe. Already have a grinder? Send us its brand and model and we will help check whether it is suitable for this way of brewing.
Do I need the app?
No. You can heat the water and start extraction using the button on the machine. The app gives you additional settings for temperature, pre-infusion and extraction time. You can also save your preferences.
Can I use capsules?
No. Ceramax uses ground coffee in a 58 mm filter basket. If you also want to use Nespresso Original capsules, take a look at Cerapresso Travel Kit.
How many brews can I make on a full battery?
That depends on how much water you heat, how cold it is at the start and the temperature you choose. The surroundings also matter. A stated number of brews therefore applies to particular conditions. If you use hot water and start extraction directly, the battery does not need to heat it first.
Which charger or power bank can I use?
Use a USB-C power source that meets Ceramax's charging requirements. A matching connector or high wattage alone is not enough. Check the charging profile specified in the manual too. The USB-C cable is included; the charger is not. Not sure about your charger or power bank? Send us its brand and model.
How much espresso does the reservoir produce?
The maximum reservoir capacity of 80 ml is not the amount of espresso in your cup. Some water stays in the coffee. Your yield also depends on your recipe and preparation. Coffee scales help you track how much espresso you brew.
Will my existing 58 mm accessories fit?
Not necessarily. Shape, depth and fittings matter as well as diameter. A portafilter from a full-sized machine does not fit just because its filter basket is also 58 mm. The included tools are designed for Ceramax. Ask us about the combination if you want to use existing accessories.
Can Ceramax heat or froth milk?
No. Only put water in the reservoir. For a cappuccino or another milk-based coffee, heat and froth the milk separately.
How do I clean Ceramax?
Let the parts cool, remove the used coffee and rinse the filter basket and detachable parts. Run clean hot water through the inside without coffee. Empty the reservoir and let the parts dry. Wipe the housing with a slightly damp cloth. Do not immerse the machine or put it in a dishwasher. Follow the manual for further cleaning instructions.
What do extraction pressure and maximum pump pressure mean?
Extraction pressure describes the pressure during brewing. Maximum pump pressure is the highest pressure the pump is rated to produce. These are different figures. The grind, dose and distribution also affect your brew. A higher maximum pump pressure does not automatically mean better-tasting espresso.
