About X-Press58

Dial in your espresso on the machine.

Are you used to grinding your beans, distributing the coffee and tamping it yourself? With X-Press58, you can take that preparation to work or your holiday accommodation. You use a 58 mm filter basket and choose the temperature on the machine. The battery powers the heating and pump, so you do not need a socket or kettle where you make your coffee.
More about the setShow less

X-Press58 comes as a set with a stand, tamper, dosing ring and carry bag. The stand holds the machine above the included cup during brewing. You add your own coffee, water and a suitable grinder. If you already have a grinder that lets you dial in espresso properly, you can keep using it.

What X-Press58 adds

See your espresso as it flows.

You prepare the coffee in a 58 mm filter basket that attaches beneath the machine with a locking ring. The open bottom shows where the espresso emerges from the basket and how the stream forms. Along with the taste, this helps you adjust the grind and distribution for your next brew.

Choose your temperature on the machine.

Use the button to choose 84, 88, 92 or 96 °C. You can also turn pre-infusion on or off. When enabled, the machine wets the coffee for 10 seconds before brewing continues. Both settings are saved for your next brew.

How do you compare the settings?Show less

Try a different temperature.

The same coffee can taste different at another water temperature. Brew with the same beans, grind and dose, and stop at the same amount of espresso. For your next brew, choose one temperature setting higher or lower. Taste which brew you prefer and note the setting. Keep pre-infusion at the same setting during this comparison.

Compare with and without pre-infusion.

Pre-infusion gives the water time to wet the tamped coffee first. Compare a brew with the function on and off, keeping the other settings and amount of espresso the same. Pay attention to the start of the flow and what you taste. This lets you assess whether that extra step adds anything to your recipe.

Heat the water where you brew.

With a charged battery, X-Press58 heats the water in the reservoir itself. You do not need to bring hot water. If you already have it available, you can skip heating and brew straight away. This uses less battery power.

When do you use water that is already hot?Show less

If there is already hot water available at work or your holiday accommodation, you can add it and use the direct brewing mode. The machine does not heat the water further in this mode, so the selected temperature does not apply to the water you add. Prepare your coffee and set the cup in place before adding the hot water. This minimises the time between filling and brewing.

Set the machine down while brewing.

The included stand holds the machine above your cup, so you do not have to hold it during brewing. The tamper and dosing ring are also included for preparing your coffee. After use, store the machine and accessories in the carry bag.

Is this right for me?

If you want to dial in your own espresso.

X-Press58 suits anyone who wants to work with ground coffee and control how the espresso flows. The machine heats and pumps; you take care of preparing the coffee.

  • You use a suitable espresso grinder.

Your grinder needs to grind finely enough and allow small adjustments. Start with 18 grams of coffee in the included basket. The right grind depends on your beans and the flow. Distribution and tamping also matter.

  • You want to use ground coffee.

You weigh the dose, fill the filter basket and tamp the coffee. The tamper and dosing ring you need are included. If you mainly want to insert a capsule and press start, a capsule machine is better suited to your use.

  • You brew in a fixed spot during your day or trip.

Place the machine in its stand on a flat, sturdy table and put the cup underneath. Allow space for your grinder, coffee and water. The machine weighs around 825 grams; your complete coffee kit will weigh more.

How it works

You prepare the coffee; the machine brews.

  1. 01

    Grind and tamp the coffee.

Remove the cup and the locking ring with its filter basket. Place the dosing ring on the basket and add 18 grams of finely ground coffee. Distribute the coffee evenly and tamp straight down with the tamper. Remove the dosing ring before attaching the basket.

  2. 02

Attach the basket and position your cup.

Screw the locking ring with the filled filter basket firmly onto the bottom of the machine. Place the machine in the stand on a flat surface and put the cup under the outlet.

  3. 03

    Add water.

Open the lid and fill the reservoir with drinking water, no higher than the 80 ml mark. Close the lid. You can use room-temperature water and let the machine heat it.

  4. 04

    Start heating and brewing.

Press and hold the button for 2 seconds until you hear the beep. The machine heats the water to the selected temperature. If enabled, this is followed by 10 seconds of pre-infusion, and brewing starts automatically. Press the button once during brewing to stop when you have your desired amount of espresso.

How to choose the settings.

Set the temperature before you begin. Press the button quickly five times to open temperature selection. Press briefly to change the setting. From top to bottom, the four lights represent 96, 92, 88 and 84 °C. Wait for the lights to go out to save your choice.
Pre-infusion and brewing with hot waterShow less

Press the button quickly six times to set pre-infusion. Four lit lights mean on; only the top and bottom lights mean off. Press briefly to switch and wait for the lights to go out. The duration is 10 seconds and cannot be lengthened or shortened. If you have already added hot water, press quickly twice to brew without heating. Your chosen pre-infusion setting still applies.

Frequently asked questions

What else would you like to know?

Ask your question about X-Press58
Can I use capsules or pre-ground coffee?

X-Press58 is designed for ground coffee and does not come with a capsule adapter. You can use pre-ground coffee if the grind suits the machine. If the coffee flows too quickly or barely flows at all, you cannot adjust that grind. With a suitable espresso grinder, you can do so for your next dose.

Does 80 ml of water also mean 80 ml of espresso?

No. The coffee retains some of the water. The reservoir capacity is therefore not the same as the amount in your cup. Stop brewing at your desired amount and, if needed, use a suitable scale to monitor it.

Will my other 58 mm accessories fit?

That depends on the part. X-Press58 uses a separate filter basket with a locking ring. A complete handled portafilter from another machine will not automatically attach to it. The precise dimensions of separate baskets and tampers also need to fit. Send us the brand and model if you would like this checked beforehand.

What charger do I need?

For fast charging, use a USB-C adapter rated at 30 W or more with QC 2.0 / PD 3.1 support. With a suitable 30 W adapter, a full charge takes around 2 hours. The machine draws a maximum of 30 W. A suitable 10 W charger charges more slowly; allow around 6 hours. The charging cable is included, but the adapter is not.

Can X-Press58 also froth milk?

No. The machine makes espresso and does not have a steam wand. For cappuccino or other milk coffees, heat and froth the milk separately. Only fill the water reservoir with water.

How do I clean the machine?

After brewing, let the machine cool for a few minutes before releasing the locking ring. Remove the basket and discard the used coffee. You can use the air blower to push it out of the upturned basket. Rinse the basket clean and run clean, hot water through the machine without coffee in direct brewing mode. Empty the reservoir afterwards. Wipe the housing with a damp cloth and keep the button and charging port dry. Do not immerse the machine or use cleaning products inside it.
