About Delter Press

You decide when the water flows.

With Delter Press, make filter coffee over your own cup. The brewing water stays separate from the grounds until you press the plunger. Pass water through the coffee in portions and control the pace yourself. Brew at home, by the kettle at work or with hot water you've brought to the campsite.
What is Injection Brewing?Show less

Lift the plunger to prepare an amount of water, then press it gently down to pass that water through the coffee. Delter calls this method Injection Brewing. The coffee stays in a separate chamber. Adjust your dose, grind and pressing movement to what you taste. The transparent and grey versions use the same brewing method. The included filter differs.

What Delter Press adds

Dose water with your plunger.

You don't have to pass all the brewing water through the coffee at once. Lift the plunger a little and press it gently back down. Repeat for the next portion. Start with a small amount to wet the coffee, then continue brewing. Press gently. If you feel a lot of resistance, don't apply extra force.

Choose what your filter lets through too.

The transparent version includes 100 paper filters. Paper retains fine coffee particles and some oils. The grey version has a reusable stainless steel filter that lets more oils through, which can give a fuller feel. You're also choosing how to filter.

Replace a paper filter after use. Clean and reuse the stainless steel filter.

When should you choose paper or stainless steel?Show less

Start with what you enjoy in your cup. Paper suits a preference for few fine particles. Stainless steel suits a fuller mouthfeel, with some fine sediment possible. The size of the difference also depends on your beans and grind. You can also use suitable paper Delter filters in the grey Delter Press. They aren't included with that version.

Brew more by adding water.

With the plunger fully down, fill to the 200 ml mark. For a larger brew, add more water while brewing. For example, use 400 ml of brewing water without carrying a larger coffee maker.

Match your coffee dose to all the water you intend to use, and choose a collecting jug that's large enough.

Is brewing water the same as coffee in your cup?Show less

Some water stays in the grounds. With 400 ml of brewing water, you'll get less than 400 ml of coffee. For a repeatable recipe, track the total amount of water added, including when filling in several rounds.

Take your brewing method with you.

Delter Press weighs around 250 grams and works by hand. Use it wherever you have hot water, coffee and a sturdy cup or jug. Its Tritan housing makes it suitable for packing with your coffee equipment.

Bring your filter too, and find a flat, stable place to press.

What does the Jet-Seal do?Show less

The Jet-Seal separates brewing water from the coffee chamber. When pressing, water passes through it to the coffee. This allows dosing in separate portions. The final flavour also depends on your beans, grind and coffee-to-water ratio.

Is this right for me?

For making filter coffee your way.

Delter Press suits you if you're looking for a compact coffee maker and want to work with water, grind and dose yourself.

  • You want to adjust your brewing.

Choose how much coffee and water to use and how to press. Start with a simple recipe. If you enjoy a cup, note your quantities and grind setting before changing anything.

  • You have suitable ground coffee.

Grind your own or use pre-ground coffee. Start with a filter-coffee grind. Your own grinder lets you adjust the grind for your next brew.

  • You can add hot water.

Use a kettle or bring hot water in a suitable flask. Brew over a sturdy, heat-resistant cup or jug that supports the coffee maker securely. Delter doesn't heat water itself.

How it works

Prepare, fill and press gently.

  1. 01

    Get your filter ready.

Press the plunger fully into the empty coffee maker. Place your filter in the filter cap. Rinse a paper filter with hot water first and discard the rinse water. If using the stainless steel filter, make sure it's clean and sits flat.

  2. 02

    Fill the coffee chamber.

Turn the still-empty coffee maker upside down and place, for example, 12 grams of medium-ground coffee in the coffee chamber on the Jet-Seal. Distribute evenly. Screw on the filter cap and position Delter upright on your cup or jug.

  3. 03

    Add hot water.

Fill from above to the 200 ml mark with the plunger still fully down. Start with water at around 94 °C, for example. Place the dosing cap on top of the plunger.

  4. 04

    Lift and press gently.

Lift the plunger slowly to prepare a portion of water. Then press it gently down without forcing it. Repeat until you've used all the water in your recipe. Allow around 2-3 minutes for this starting brew, then adjust to taste.

Lifting fills. Pressing brews.

When you lift, water flows into the space beneath the plunger. When you press, you push that water through the Jet-Seal into the coffee chamber. This lets you add water several times to the same portion of coffee.
How do you adjust your next cup?Show less

The 12 grams of coffee, 200 ml of water and around 94 °C are a starting point. Keep the quantities the same initially and try a small change in grind. Note what you taste. If you need to push hard, don't force the plunger; try a coarser grind next time. Pressing harder doesn't replace a suitable grind.

Frequently asked questions

What else would you like to know?

Ask us about Delter Press
Is colour the only difference between transparent and grey?

The included filter differs too. Transparent comes with 100 paper filters. Grey includes a reusable stainless steel filter. Both use the same plunger and brewing method.

Can I also use paper filters with the grey version?

Yes, the grey Delter Press also works with suitable paper Delter filters, sold separately. Compare the two ways of filtering to see which you prefer.

Does Delter Press make espresso?

Delter Press is intended for filter coffee. More coffee and less water can produce a more concentrated drink, but the manual press works at much lower pressure than an espresso machine. Don't expect espresso with the same texture and crema.

How do I make more than one cup?

Choose your total amount of coffee and water beforehand. With the plunger down, fill to 200 ml and add more water during brewing. Use a jug with enough capacity. The number of cups depends on cup size, and some water stays in the grounds.

Can I use coffee that's already ground?

Yes, if the grind suits this brewing method. Start with a filter grind. You can't change the grind of pre-ground coffee. With your own grinder, you can adjust it for the next dose.

How do I clean Delter Press?

Let the coffee maker cool enough to handle. Remove the filter cap and used coffee. Discard a used paper filter or rinse the stainless steel filter clean. Wash the parts with warm water and mild washing-up liquid, rinse and let them dry. Choose hand-washing.
