Four settings in one tamping cycle
Use the integrated LED display to set four parts of the tamping cycle independently:
Tamping pressure from 5 to 20 kg
Contact time with the coffee bed
Number of tamps per cycle
Vibration strength
Adjust the cycle to your dose, grind and espresso recipe. Ceratitan then repeats your chosen settings the same way each time. All controls are on the device; no app or smartphone is needed.
Vibration settles the coffee bed before pressure is applied
The built-in vibration function helps ground coffee settle in the filter basket before and during tamping. This can reduce local differences in distribution and density before the final tamping pressure is applied.
Vibration supports puck preparation, but doesn't replace correct dosing or careful distribution. If you use a WDT tool, that step still comes before tamping.
Choose the pressure that suits your recipe
Set tamping pressure between 5 and 20 kg, or 11-44 lb. Ceratitan applies the chosen pressure electronically and holds it for the set contact time.
This makes it easier to test different settings in a controlled way and repeat a chosen tamping cycle. It's also practical when several people use the same espresso setup.
Aligned straight above the coffee bed
Ceratitan attaches to the portafilter using two locking lugs. This attachment and automatic levelling help position the aluminium tamper base straight above the coffee bed.
The base moves straight down during the cycle and has a ridged profile that leaves an even pattern on the puck surface. You don't need to apply pressure yourself or hold the tamper level with your wrist.
Attach it and let it run automatically
Fill and distribute the ground coffee in the filter basket and position the portafilter upright. Place Ceratitan on the portafilter and twist it into place using the two lugs.
The set cycle starts automatically after attachment. Ceratitan applies the chosen vibration, tamping pressure, contact time and number of tamps. Afterwards, the tamper base automatically retracts to its starting position.
The portafilter can then go straight into the espresso machine.
Automatic tamping without a fixed tamping station
Ceratitan combines automatic tamping with a compact, rechargeable design. It doesn't need a permanent place on the worktop and is easy to put away after use.
The three built-in Li-ion battery cells have a combined capacity of 2,400 mAh and provide more than 1,000 tamps per full charge. Charge via USB-C; no power socket is needed while tamping.
Check more than just the diameter
Not every 58 mm portafilter fits. Ceratitan is designed exclusively for portafilters with two compatible locking lugs.
Before buying, check:
The 58 mm diameter
The number of locking lugs
The position and shape of the lugs
Whether the portafilter is from a stationary espresso machine
Portafilters with three lugs, different attachment shapes and portafilters from portable espresso machines are not suitable. Ceratitan therefore does not fit Ceramax, despite that machine's 58 mm portafilter.
