About the analogue thermometer

See how warm your milk gets.

While frothing, follow your milk's temperature on the dial. It gives you a reading alongside feeling the jug. The thermometer works without a battery and stays clipped to a suitable rim. Use it to check hot water before making filter coffee too.
What does the needle tell you?Show less

The narrow tip of the red needle shows the temperature of the liquid around the probe. Read Celsius on the inner scale and Fahrenheit on the outer scale.

The orange zone around 85-92 °C is a reference for brewing water. For warm milk to drink straight away, around 55-60 °C can be a starting point. The needle takes time to respond and can lag behind during rapid heating.

What the analogue thermometer adds

Track your milk as it warms.

The needle moves with the temperature of the liquid around the probe. While frothing, watch the milk warm and compare the reading with the result in your cup. Keep at least 5 cm of the probe in the liquid. Use the reading as an indication.

0-100 °C · Celsius and Fahrenheit · No battery

Keep your hands on the frothing.

The removable clip holds the thermometer on your milk jug's rim. You don't need to hold it separately while positioning the jug and controlling the steam.

The clip must fit securely on the rim. Keep the probe clear of the base, sides and steam wand.

Removable clip · 304 stainless steel probe

What should you watch for while heating?Show less

A thermometer takes time to reach temperature. During rapid heating, the liquid may already be warmer than the needle shows. Stay with your preparation and consider how quickly your steam wand heats the milk. The thermometer doesn't signal or stop heating.

Check your brewing water too.

If your pouring kettle has no temperature display, measure inside it before making coffee. See the temperature where you use the water, including after transferring it.

Clean the probe when switching from milk to water.

What does the orange zone mean?Show less

The orange marking around 85-92 °C is a visual reference for brewing water. It isn't a recommended milk temperature or a fixed rule for every coffee. Choose water temperature based on your brewing recipe, then adjust to taste.

Is this right for me?

For reading the temperature.

This thermometer suits you if you're looking for a simple addition to your milk jug or pouring kettle.

  • You heat milk or water yourself.

You want to track temperature while preparing. The thermometer measures; you heat and decide when to stop.

  • Your jug has enough room.

The liquid must be deep enough to immerse at least 5 cm of the probe. A small portion in a wide jug doesn't always allow this. For milk, leave room for foam too.

  • A practical indication is enough.

You're looking for an analogue reading without a battery. To assess very small temperature differences, choose a thermometer with specified measurement accuracy and response time.

How it works

Position, read and clean.

  1. 01

    Position the thermometer.

Attach the clip to a suitable jug and face the dial towards you. Set the jug down stably before placing the thermometer.

  2. 02

    Check the measuring position.

Keep at least 5 cm of the probe in the milk or water. Let it hang freely without touching the base, sides or steam wand. Keep the dial above the liquid.

  3. 03

    Track the temperature.

Give the needle time to respond. If heating milk, stay with it and stop in time yourself. If checking still brewing water, read once the needle barely changes.

  4. 04

    Clean after use.

Remove the thermometer from the jug and clean the probe and clip by hand. Remove milk residue after each preparation and dry the parts before storing.

Measure in the liquid.

A tip in the milk foam isn't enough. At least 5 cm of the probe must be in the liquid itself. Avoid contact with the jug so you're tracking the temperature of its contents.
Which temperature should you choose for milk?Show less

For warm milk to drink straight away, use around 55-60 °C as a starting point. Adjust to your drink and preference. For plant-based drinks, also follow the packaging's usage advice. The right temperature alone doesn't make good foam. Your milk and how you add air matter too.

Frequently asked questions

What else would you like to know?

Ask us about the thermometer
How accurately does this thermometer measure?

Use it as a practical temperature indication. Probe position and the time you give the needle to respond affect your reading.

Can I use it for plant-based milk?

Yes, track the temperature of a plant-based drink too. Make sure the probe sits deep enough in the liquid. How much foam forms and how long it lasts also depend on composition and technique.

Does it fit through every pouring kettle lid?

No. The opening and probe length must suit. The probe doesn't fit through the vent hole of MHW-3BOMBER's 400 ml Planet pouring kettle. With other kettles, also check the probe reaches deep enough into the water.

Can I use it for a small amount of milk?

That depends on your jug. At least 5 cm of the probe must be in the milk while leaving room for foam. Jug capacity alone doesn't tell you whether that's possible with your portion.

Can I measure my espresso machine's brewing temperature with it?

Measuring in a cup tells you the liquid's temperature there. That's different from the water's temperature at the coffee during brewing. Don't use this thermometer to determine your espresso machine's brewing temperature.

How do I clean the thermometer?

Clean the probe and clip by hand and dry afterwards. Gently squeeze the clip to slide it along the probe or remove it. Remove milk residue after each use. Dishwasher suitability is not confirmed.
